Quitting to Avoid Cancer
“A telephone call to schedule a routine chest x-ray ended up being more than I had bargained for. The on-hold voice encouraged me to schedule a CAT scan instead. I followed that advice and got the CAT scan—which revealed nodules on my right lung. That was it. Enough was enough! I was so scared for my health, and my husband had quit smoking. So I thought with some help, I could too. I called the quitline and quit smoking six days later. Quitline coaches helped me put together a plan for quitting and staying off cigarettes for the rest of my life. For the first time in a long while, I recently went to the zoo with my husband and grandchildren without having to worry about the next cigarette. That would have been impossible before quitting. I’m so happy I to get to enjoy my family and worry less about my health.”
